List of Canadian CF clinicsHow CF healthcare is delivered
Canadian cystic fibrosis (CF) clinics provide specialized multidisciplinary care for people with cystic fibrosis. There are 40 CF clinics in Canada, all within a hospital setting and many with a university affiliation. Some locations are specifically adult or paediatric clinics.
Because cystic fibrosis is a complex disease that affects many areas of the body, it requires a team approach to care. Your healthcare team includes a group of dedicated healthcare professionals who partner with you to provide specialized, comprehensive CF care. Because CF is a life-long disease, it is important for people with CF to develop a comfortable, trusting relationship with their healthcare team. These team members include physicians, nurses, dietitians, physiotherapists, social workers, pharmacists and others.
It’s important to communicate regularly with your healthcare team so they can stay up to date on changes or challenges in your life so that your treatment plan can evolve and adapt to meet your needs.
CF and medicine in Canada
People with CF may be prescribed many medications to help manage cystic fibrosis (CF) symptoms. While some may be more common, many are specialized cystic fibrosis medications. For some people, new drugs called CF modulators can help treat the underlying cause of the disease rather than just the symptoms. Not all Canadians have been able to access or use the new life-changing drugs available. Cystic Fibrosis Canada is committed to advocating for access to all medicines for everyone living with CF in Canada.
